Industry data released this week show both cities approaching record occupancy rates, driven by domestic travelers and visitors from North America and Europe.

Cartagena and Medellín Near Record Hotel Occupancy at Peak of Mid-Year Season

Hotel occupancy in Cartagena and Medellín is approaching record levels for the mid-year vacation period, according to statistics released this week by Cotelco, the Colombian Hotel and Tourism Association. The surge is being driven by a combination of domestic travelers and international visitors from North America and Europe.

Tourism officials credited improved air connectivity and safety campaigns for the strong numbers, while also flagging pressure on local infrastructure and calling for sustainable tourism management going forward, La República reported.

The figures arrive as Colombia's profile abroad remains elevated following the country's run to the Round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, a tournament hosted across the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
