National outlets reported on July 28 that officials from President Gustavo Petro's administration and representatives of De la Espriella's team have been meeting to coordinate the draft 2027 national budget and the fiscal guidelines that will span both governments.
Discussions have centered on maintaining fiscal rules while making room for the incoming administration's campaign commitments on security and infrastructure. Both sides have publicly described the process as technical in nature, emphasizing institutional continuity over political differences.
Statements from the Finance Ministry and De la Espriella's team, aired on Colombian television on July 28, reinforced that framing. The tone stands in contrast to some of the sharper rhetoric of the campaign period and reflects the narrow margin of De la Espriella's runoff victory over Ivan Cepeda of the governing Historic Pact on June 21.
Petro, constitutionally barred from seeking a second term, remains in office until the inauguration. The budget coordination meetings represent one of the last major institutional tasks of his administration before the transfer of power.
