Transition Teams Press Ahead on Policy Details Before August 7 Handover

With just over a week until the August 7 inauguration, the Petro administration and the de la Espriella transition team sat down in Bogotá for fresh working sessions covering fiscal policy, security, and social programs, according to reporting by El Tiempo and Semana.

Coverage described the handover process as constitutional and routine, with no legal disputes reported over the June 21 runoff result that gave de la Espriella roughly 43.7 percent of the vote against the Historic Pact's Ivan Cepeda.

Petro, who has been in office since 2022 and is constitutionally barred from seeking re-election, remains president until the inauguration ceremony. The transition meetings are expected to continue through the first week of August.
